This edition includes some interim developments on three topics from the ShipInsight Guide series. These are Power and Propulsion, Fuel saving and Effciency and Ballast Water Treatment. All are very topical issues and we are sure that you will find the articles interesting and informative. Some issues in ship- ping seem to develop and evolve over quite an extended time span and that has certainly been the case as far as ballast water has been concerned.
However, when things do happen they can move quite fast and it is very possible that some of what is included in this issue may have been overtaken by events. There were no new ratifications of the Ballast Convention at MEPC 69 but that is not to say that more signatures will not be added in the time between then and publication.
To tie in with Posidonia, this issue also includes a preview of the show and a look at the Greek shipping scene. There is also a look at some new technologies and also a Talking Technical article that looks at Maersk Fluid Technology’s Blending on Board system that is now being commercialised. Converting engines to run on LNG is an idea often proposed for reducing shipping’s environmental footprint. In our white paper section we take a look at what is really involved in such a project. Some of the details that emerge may be surprising and perhaps not everyone’s first choice.
