Both the EC and UV Aquarius ballast treatment systems produced by Wärtsilä have now received US Coast guard approval after the Coast Guard Marine Safety Center issued the 18th type-approval certificate yesterday.

After a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval application for the Aquarius UV system, the ISCG determined the system met the requirements of 46 CFR 162.060.

The treatment principle of the Wärtsilä Aquarius UV BWMS consists of filtration with UV treatment at uptake and discharge. The approval covers models with maximum treatment rated capacities between 50 m3/h and 1,000 m3/h.

Wärtsilä was also granted an updated approval for the Aquarius EC system – originally granted USCG type-approval in August last year – reflecting changes to some of the components of the system. All system with the earlier type-approval remain approved.
