No less than five new applications for USCG type approval were made by ballast treatment system makers in the last two weeks of 2019.

Included in the five was the very first application by Hyde Marine for its Guardian system which completed testing in October last year.

Three of the remaining applications were made by Wärtsilä (Aquarius EC), Hyundai Heavy (HiBallast) and JFE Engineering (BallastAce) and were for amendments to existing type approval certificates. This is usually done when the system has an alternative component such as a filter system added to options available.

The final application was by Miura for its HK-E(R) model which is not described in the current products listed on its website or sales documentation.
