UK MCA gives nod to SMT tanker training webinars
Share on LinkedInShare on Twitter

Stream Marine Training (SMT) has gained STCW MCA approval for its live online webinars on “Basic Training in Oil and Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations (BTOC)”.

The course is mandatory for all seafarers working on or joining these tanker types and gives them essential training in oil and chemical cargo handling and the hazards associated with each one.

Taking place over two days, the delegates will learn about loading and unloading, care in transit, tank cleaning, purging, gas-freeing and inerting such cargoes.

On completion of the live webinar, seafarers will be knowledgeable about the different oil and chemical tanker types and be able to apply the relevant health, safety and environmental precautions and measures.

“Due to the success of our online webinars which we introduced back in June as part of a blended learning approach brought forward due to the challenges of COVID-19, we have decided to launch fully online live webinar courses, where appropriate, to give our trainees the flexibility and convenience of being able to learn at a time and place convenient to them,” said Alex Ponomarev, SMT’s Sales Director.

“Receiving STCW MCA approval for this mandatory BTOC course is an amazing achievement which demonstrates the confidence that the authorities have in our ability to deliver a quality online training programme. Not only that, but normally one of the entry requirements for delegates is having a Tanker Fire Fighting (TFF) Certificate. SMT has secured a unique agreement with the MCA allowing delegates to take our tanker operations course provided they obtain a TFF certificate within three months of completing our webinar. They can then be issued with a BTOC certificate,” he added.
