France's Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) has ordered a service operation vessel (SOV) based on a design from Salt Ship Design in Stord, Norway.

The SOV will be built by Cemre Shipyard in Turkey and will operate on behalf of the Danish energy company Dong Energy. Delivery of the 83-metre vessel is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2018.

SOV design is highly equipped with partly compensated system of footpaths, unique logistics solution on board and great decor for personnel. Salt Ship Design will provide complete design and engineering documentation for the new wind vessel.

LDA is expanding their services and fleet for the renewables industry, and their key personnel have been working closely with Salt for a long time to develop a vessel tailored for the industry needs – in particular focusing on enhanced operability and efficient logistics.

This has resulted in a very purpose driven SOV – and adding the quality focused mind set of LDA into the vessel design, she will become a unique vessel in her segment.

"This contract represents an important milestone for Salt, and we are very pleased to enter the Offshore Wind Farm segment with such a great client and a quality vessel. The growing renewables industry represents an increasingly important market for Salt," said a company statement.
