An application for US type approval for the NK-O3 BlueBallast II Plus Ballast Water Management System manufactured by NK BMS has been made to the US Coast Guard bringing the total number to 18.

Of the 18 systems which have applied, ten have already been granted USCG type-approval leaving eight in the pipeline. The latest application by South Korean NK BMS is in addition to the one made in August for the company’s related Blue Ballast II system which is still pending approval. The other outstanding applications awaiting approval were made by De Nora, JFE Engineering, Panasia, Headway, Hyundai Heavy and Envirocleanse.

MSC will review the application for compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations in 46 CFR 162.060. Once it has been determined that the application meets the requirements, the MSC will issue a type approval certificate.
