Miura applies for USCG type-approval

Japanese-Ballast system maker Miura has become the 25th organisation to apply for type-approval under the US Coast Guard regulations.

The request lodged last week is for the HK-(E)C Ballast Water Management System which employs filtration and UV radiation as treatment methods. The system is capable of treating flow rates of between 200-900 m3/h.

MSC will review the application for compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations in 46 CFR 162.060. Once it has been determined that the application meets the requirements, the MSC will issue a type approval certificate.

The application by Miura, which received IMO type-approval in 2014 and is also on the list of US AMS systems, means that there are nine outstanding application for first time USCG type approval and three for amendments to existing type-approvals awaiting acceptance.
