This Wednesday is the official deadline for entries for the NorShipping Awards and while some have come in, the organisers would like to be sure that all possible candidates are entered. Full details for each of the three awards and entry forms can be found on the Nor-Shipping website. The forms take just a few minutes to complete and we understand that as long as main details are included, any extra information needed will be sought prior to the final entry being circulated to jury members. So please ensure that your entry is recorded by end of Wednesday 1 March. For Nor-Shipping 2017, energy efficiency, innovative ship design and young entrepreneurship are in focus, each with its own award. The three awards recognise the energy drive and innovation of the shipping industry which, despite the current air of uncertainty, helps make the modern world. And with a growing world population, shipping will have to take on the task of ensuring there is food and commodities available where they are needed most. Innovation often thrives is the face of adversity and challenge and no one would argue that there is plenty of both around at this moment. Our industry is discovering new fuels and new means to power the transport of goods and people but even making use of convention oil fuel and diesel engines does not preclude energy saving designs and devices. A communication revolution is taking place that opens up new possibilities in so many fields from safer navigation to remote assistance that can complement the skills of those on board with help from specialists ashore. Winners, as well as nominees, will be sure to get much attention as Nor-Shipping spreads the news about them. The awards ceremony will take place on May 30, 2017 as an integrated element of the Nor-Shipping Opening Conference, with the industry elite on hand to hear the news. Select nominees will be presented as part of a gallery display at the Nor-Shipping exhibition, bringing additional attention to their work throughout the entire event week.
