Norway-based Siem Group has awarded Fosen Yard in Rissa the task of completing Honfleur the ro-pax ferry which has lain uncompleted at the Flenbsurger yard in Germany since 2018. The vessel is now being towed from Germany to Norway, and is expected to be at Fosen later this week.
Flensburger began building the 42,000gt vessel for Brittany Ferries under a contract made in 2017 but work ceased when the yard ran in to financial problems. Siem Group which was part owner of the yard ended its involvement earlier this year and it was reported at the time that the deal would involve ownership of the vessel being transferred to Siem for completion elsewhere.
On 26 October Siem and Fosen issued a joint statement confirming completion of the vessel at Fosen. Anders Straumsheim, CEO Of Fosen Yard, emphasised the importance of this project for the yard industry in Norway and stated that this work is well suited to Fosen yard’s capabilities.
Kenneth Ross, Siem Group Head of Shipping, stated that the working relationship with the Fosen organisation is constructive and off to a good start. the Siem Group was pleased to place the order in Norway.
