Danske Rederier the body representing Danish shipowners has made an agreement with Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping to become a knowledge partner for the center.
The center’s vision is to convert shipping to become CO2-neutral, and this is a vision that Danske Rederier shares so the two organisations have made a partnership agreement on knowledge sharing and collaboration.
“Danish Shipping Companies and their members have long been advocates for a more sustainable development of the maritime industry. As a knowledge partner, Danske Rederier brings important competencies into our joint work on the development of industry standards and regulatory frameworks, which together are crucial for accelerating the transition to CO2 neutral shipping,” said Bo Cerup-Simonsen, CEO of Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping.
“Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping will be a key player in the work for CO2-neutral shipping. We at Danske Rederier would very much like to take part in this work, and therefore we have now made a partnership agreement on knowledge sharing,” said Anne H Steffensen, CEO of Danske Rederier.
The conversion of international shipping is a huge task that has only just begun. “Mapping of technological and regulatory barriers to reducing CO2 emissions from shipping, for which the center must come up with solutions, must be brought into the work with the regulation of shipping. Here at Danske Rederier we have many years of experience from the IMO and the EU, and we work closely with relevant ministries. We are part of a global network of shipping associations and also know from there what is happening in the green transition globally. With that in mind, we can see a strong collaboration with the center for us,” said Steffensen.
The collaboration between Danske Rederier and the Center goes both ways. Danske Rederier makes knowledge available, and at the same time gets knowledge back about projects and development. Knowledge which in turn can be shared with its member shipping companies.
“We will work together to adopt regulation of shipping emissions, which is based on thorough independent analyses and which is reasonable and the same for everyone. And then we will be a link between the center and our many members, who each work to reduce CO2 emissions,” said Steffensen.
